History
Built in 1962 by Groves & Gutteridge and featuring as the RNLI Boat Show exhibit in 1963 she was stationed at Shoreham 1963 to 1981 then at Oban in 1981 after which she was in the RNLI reserve fleet untill 1988, her RNLI service number was ON967
While at Shoreham she was launched 187 times and saved 122 lives.
Perhaps her greatest claim to fame was on January 21st 1980 when she went to the assistance of the 'Athena B', a 3,500 tonne vessel, off Shoreham harbour. The Athena B was crippled in stormy seas so the then 'Dorothy' went out three times , firstly rescuing the captains wife and daughter, the going back for a young French girl (where the lifeboat was almost thrown onto the Athena's deck by waves) and finally returning for 11 more crew.
The boat was purchased from the RNLI in 1988 and has had just 2 owners since. She has been MCA CAT2 coded and is currently in use within a RYA powerboat training centre.
